Attached is a picture of my great-great-grandfather Theodore Wrocklage, son of Christian Mathias (Esch) and Anna Maria Caterina Wrocklage. He was a principal in the founding of Delphos, Ohio and a partner in many businesses; a potash factory, wheel factory, mercantile, bank, insurance company, railroad, grain mill and others.
It was said that he often made loans personally to young farmers who were turned down by the bank. He would require a meeting with the farmer and his wife. If she was a "stout, strong woman" he knew that she would be an asset to the farmer, being able to work side by side as they cleared land and planted and harvested crops. If she was thin or frail, he would decline the loan knowing that she would not survive the physical nature of the work required to farm the land.
He was a generous man, donating land or money to provide works that served the general public. He often donated to of many denominations, both in Delphos and in surrounding communities.
