Hello, Corrian.
I have some name clarifications on which I hope you could shed some light. Your website is an incredible resource and has taught me a lot about my heritage. I never would have thought that Wrocklage does not actually run in my blood but was a taken name by my great-great-great-Grandfather. I also did not know that my Grandmother (Marie Wrocklage) had written you a letter. But you have it posted on your website. I will have to ask her about it.
In looking through records (all US records except for your website), the men in my Wrocklage line are all knows by the name "Mathias Wrocklage". Even on your website (2 Mathias Wrocklage geb. 1789) you have the name of him and his son as this, but if your story (Waar komt de naam F(V)roklage vandaan) you have his name listed as "Christian Mathias Esch". Does this name come from actual written records or an oral recounting? I am curious if maybe people in Germany at that time used to go by their middle names such as "C. Mathias Wrocklage" and this is why when they came to the United States his name was always "Mathias Wrocklage". Even on his immigration entrance his name was listed as "Mathias Esch Wrocklage" with no mention of the "Christian" moniker.
Any insight you could give me would be wonderful. If you don't have anything more that could help, I understand. I do thoroughly enjoy your website as you have done a great job with it.
Sincerely,
Ryan Wrocklage.
Hello Ryan,
You asked me about your ancestor Mathias Christian Wrocklage born "van Esch" wether this information comes from written resourses.
The resourses are church records: mariage records and from the records of a former landowner "Boeselager".
So I learned from the research done by Mrs. Agnes Wrocklage in Vinte (page 1).
She married a descendant of Wrocklage wich ancestors Kleineyer bought the Wrocklagehof in 1850
I forgot to ask you, if you will sent me pedegree of your family
Sincerely,
Corrien Froklage
Thank you, Corrien.
Your information is very helpful. I will be glad to give you my pedigree. I'll take a look at your website and see what you currently have. I can also give you additional information about Christian Mathis (Esch) Wrocklage and his children after they emigrated to the United States if you are interested. I can even provide you scans of the information that I have if you would like.
Sincerely,
Ryan.
Hello Ryan,
Thank you, that would be very nice.
Sincerely,
Corrien Froklage
Hi, Corrien.
It has been some time since we communicated. I have just gotten back into researching my ancestors. Been quite busy with my new family. I was hoping you could shed some light on the part of my ancestors: namely the wives of Christian Mathias [Esch] Wrocklage. Your narrative states he married 1) Anna Maria Catherine Wrocklage, 2) Anna Maria Elizabeth, and then 3) Anna Maria Elizabeth Lohberens with whom he emigrated.
In all the searching I have done, all records seem to indicate that Christian emigrated to the USofA with Elizabeth Gerdemann and not Lohberens. For one example, I have attached a page from Gateway to the West published with original recordings. This particular section deals with Ohio where the Wrocklages settled. A description of Christian's family is delineated and this history indicates Elizabeth's last name was Gerdemann. As indicated this information came directly from Christian. This also indicates he was only married twice and not three times. This information was recorded in 1847 and one of the witnesses, John Otto Brederick, knew the Wrocklage family in Germany. He emigrated to the USofA with Christian's son, Theodore.
There are other indicators as well such of other stories and the cemetery records where Elizabeth was laid to rest.
Any information you have would be wonderful.
With regards.
Ryan Wrocklage.
Dear Corrien,
I have been spending much time on your wonderful website and I have
discovered one error. You have Maria Catherine Wrocklage (born 1835,
daughter of Christian Mathias Wrocklage) as the wife of Herman Henry
Frecker. Actually, Maria Catharina was born in 1837 and her sister
Maria Bernadina Wrocklage was born in 1835. Maria Bernadina is also the
wife of Herman Henry Frecker. Maria Bernadina and Herman Frecker were
my great, great grandparents. The ship manifest had these two girls
confused regarding ages and names, but I am certain my great great
grandmother's name was Mary Bernadina. My great grandmother was Mary
Gertrude, who married Joseph Schulien, and my grandmother Bernadine was
named after Mary Gertrude's mother, Maria Bernadina.

I wish I could read Dutch as I know there is much on the website that I
would enjoy reading. I am doing the best I can by looking up a few
words, but the longer paragraphs are too hard for me. Perhaps I can
find someone to translate for me.
So far, I have been unable to find this on the website, but I was
wondering if you know the names of the parents of Christian Mathias Esch
Wrocklage, or at least the town in which he was born so I can find
someone to research the Esch family.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ellen Terich
